MORE THAN JUST EYEGLASSES
Optometrists and opticians on hand to help
Many people attending our Langley eye clinic aren’t aware of all the potential benefits an eye exam from a fully qualified optometrist can provide. As a professional eye specialist, an optometrist performs comprehensive assessments to check for disease markers and to monitor eye health. Whereas the optician’s role at our White Rock optometry clinic centres around dispensing and fitting glasses, our optometrist can diagnose eye conditions, as well as recommend suitable treatments.
Langley optometry clinic offering preventative eye care
Before visiting our optometry clinic, many of our clients don’t realize how much their eyes can reveal about their physical health. At West Coast Optical, we believe that eye care isn’t just about treatment. It’s also about spotting patients at risk from eye problems way before symptoms begin to make a noticeable difference to their vision. Having a comprehensive eye exam can potentially reduce your risk of eye diseases.
Not all eye disease is obvious
An eye exam can indicate that you need to be monitored for signs of diseases like diabetes, cataracts and glaucoma in the future. That’s why our skilled optometrist is on hand to examine your eyes and to identify any existing eye condition that may require treatment. Identifying issues early-on can mean quicker treatment, closer monitoring and can promote better health outcomes than a standard vision test alone.
Our Surrey optometrist has years of experience supporting individuals to take care of their eye health by encouraging regular examination. If you require further monitoring or treatment, our team can ensure you are referred to the correct specialist, such as an ophthalmologist or doctor, to get the care you need.
What to expect at your eye exam
When arriving for an eye check-up, every patient can expect to receive a professional, friendly service as well as a thorough eye exam. Although the exact tests performed vary depending on individual requirements, the type of assessments which form part of our eye exam schedule include:
- The use of eye charts.
- Examination of the back of the eye (the retina), using specialist equipment (usually a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope)
- A test for colour blindness
- Testing eye movements (ocular motility testing)
- A retinoscopy (which enables the optometrist to decide the strength of the prescription glasses required, if any)
- A slit lamp exam (used for close-up observation of the eye structures)
- Refraction testing using a phoropter (intended to provide the information needed to ensure the lens prescription is as accurate and finely tuned as possible)
- Pupil dilation (a few drops of a pupil dilating compound are applied to the eye). This allows the optometrist to get a better look at the retina and internal eye structures.
- A glaucoma test
- Visual field testing
- A depth perception test (stereopsis test)
Several other tests may be performed as part of the eye exam process, depending on the individual needs of each patient.
Our team is here to help! If you have any questions about the eye exam or any other aspect of your eye care, please let us know and we will be happy to provide all the information you need.
Do I need to make any special preparations for my eye assessment?
All the tests performed as part of our eye exam are non-invasive. If pupil dilation drops are used, patients should wear sunglasses for the rest of the day if outside, as their pupils may remain dilated for a few hours after the eye exam has been completed.
It is also helpful to bring all your current prescription glasses or lenses with you. If you have noticed any changes in your vision since your last eye exam, making a note of them is helpful. You can then update the optometrist as part of the eye exam process.
Enjoy the added value which skilled opticians can bring
We are the eye clinic Surrey residents depend on for top-quality care. This includes a commitment to ensuring that your glasses don’t just work well, but that they also look amazing. If your tests reveal that you need to start wearing glasses, this can be a big change — which is why our opticians and frame stylists are on-hand to offer advice and guidance on the style and colours included in our eyewear selection.
With plenty of designs to choose from, your glasses could transform your style — as well as significantly improve your eyesight! There’s a reason West Coast Optical is the best purveyor of eyeglasses in White Rock, BC and the Fraser Valley.
What are the advantages of using a professional contact lens fitter?
Not everyone wants to wear glasses. If your preference is for contact lenses, we have 3 contact lens fitters on-site to help you find the lenses that will work best for you. They will ensure that you get the correct fit and type of contact lenses for your eyes, as well as for any underlying conditions. Having your contacts professionally and properly measured and fitted significantly reduces any possibility of you developing serious eye problems in the future.
If you are experiencing any problems with your current lenses or need additional advice or information, our highly trained team is here for you.
Modern, well-equipped eye clinic in Surrey
We believe that the eye exam patients get when they use us should be as thorough as possible. That’s why we’ve invested heavily in our premises and equipment. Our optometrist has access to cutting-edge diagnostic and testing equipment. This will enable them to provide a highly-detailed, accurate eye assessment in comfortable surroundings.
West Coast Optical aims to provide the most extensive and individualized care and treatment for your eyes, which is why the Langley Times has previously cited us as ‘The people’s first choice in eye care’ for many years in a row.
