Dr. Wong is an independent optometrist who is actively working with West Coast Optical to provide complete eye health care to Surrey, Langley and the nearby community.

FULL EYE HEALTH AND VISION EXAMINATIONS

Based on extensive research, the American Optometric Association recommends a yearly eye exam to sustain eye health. Therefore, we take pride in providing our patients with comprehensive eye health and vision examinations. These regular examinations aid in detecting abnormalities and preventing disease.

As dedicated optometrists, we believe a healthy vision is more than just “20/20”. Our exams are focused on assessing a variety of conditions and coordination skills. We evaluate for signs of threatening conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetes and hypertension.

We also believe that patient-doctor communication is key. All tests and results will be discussed with patients to ensure a complete understanding of their current eye health and personal requirements.

SENIOR AND CHILDREN EYE EXAMINATIONS

West Coast Optical is the front runner in providing highly skilled optometry care for our senior patients for their visual system health. We provide thorough eye examinations at affordable pricing and help our patients understand their symptoms, no matter how minor they may seem.

We also understand that visiting an optometrist can seem scary for children, which is why we focus on creating a safe and fun environment for our younger patients. By providing children with regular eye examinations, we are safeguarding their visions for the future.

CONTACT LENS EXAMINATIONS

If you are looking to leave your glasses at home for good, our range of contact lenses are surely meant for you. Our highly skilled team will discuss available options with you and find the most appropriate lenses that match your comfort and needs.

We provide all individuals with a consultation to determine their requirements and comfort level with lenses. We also offer additional testing to ensure that you and your contact lenses are a match made. Furthermore, West Coast Optical will schedule your necessary follow up on each visit to make certain that your contact lens measurements and eye health are up to date.

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF EYE EMERGENCIES

With our expert Optometrist, Dr. Wong, you can be sure to receive adequate urgent care. Urgent care can be sought in the following cases: sudden loss of or vision change, the sensation of a foreign body in the eyes, redness, pain, burning, itching and unnecessary tearing up. If necessary, we will provide onward referrals for our patients, enabling them to access secondary or tertiary care.

LASER EYE SURGERY, REFERRALS AND FOLLOW-UPS

Our competent optometrist in South Surrey provides pre and post-op care for Corneal Refractive surgery and Cataract surgery. Our Optometrist will work alongside your surgeon to provide the necessary care, follow-up visits and other essential care. This means our team will handle all arrangements on your behalf so that you will have a worry-free, one trip only surgery!

VISUAL FIELD/PERIPHERAL VISION TESTING

West Coast Optical’s optometrist in South Surrey believes that visual field tests are vital towards enjoying a healthy life.

We use the latest perimeter device to detect the first signs of visual trouble, including glaucoma, brain tumours and even a stroke. Our optometry assistants are available to guide you through the process while ensuring your comfort.

CATARACT AND GLAUCOMA CO-MANAGEMENT

Cataracts and glaucoma are very common eye disorders that affect millions of people all over the world. Although common, if left untreated, they may lead to complete loss of vision.

At our optometry clinic, we take pride in providing advanced eye care necessary to counter these diseases. Our specialized and sophisticated care is tailored to provide care for even advanced cases and includes secondary and tertiary care. For further testing and management of these difficult eye conditions, we also provide referrals for advanced surgery if required.

DRY EYE MANAGEMENT

Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) is a common disease of the tears and surface of the eye. It occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears or when the tears do not have the right composition. As we get older, our tear production slows and the composition of our tears can change.

Common causes of DES include medications, hormones, medical conditions, seasonal allergies and environmental conditions including poor air quality, low humidity, AC, infrequent blinking from staring at computer or TV screens and/or long-term contact lens wear.

The symptoms of DES include:

  • Burning, red eyes
  • Dry, gritty sensation
  • Itching
  • Eye pain
  • Irritation
  • Stringy eye discharge
  • Blurred vision
  • Light sensitivity
  • Eye fatigue or heavy eyelids
  • Discomfort with contact lens wear
Our expert optometrist provides specialized treatment plans based on each individual’s diagnoses to ensure an accurate, timely and successful recovery.
